Information Retrieval Techniques

Things I learned from IR techniques:

  1. Retrieval of specific information from a volume of information requires complex algorithm.
  2. Even if we can formulate complex algorithms for IR, still nothing beats humans in finding specific information.
  3. In the vast expanse of information, "100% Recall and 100% Precision" is impossible.
  4. Synonymy and polysemy are fundamental problems in information retrieval.
